Birmingham City must decide whether to extend the forward’s contract beyond this season. Jutkiewicz’s current contract will expire at the end of the season, and he will be a free agent next summer.
He has provided this update regarding his situation, as per a report by BirminghamLive: “I would imagine we will have those conversations in the next few weeks about it, but ultimately it’s about me as a professional providing the best service that I can for this football club, and trying to earn something.
“You have to earn things in this game and making sure, whether you’re the oldest player or the youngest player, you keep earning the trust of the manager and from a wider perspective getting the trust of the football club to earn a new contract. I would hope that those conversations will happen in the next few weeks.”
Birmingham City contract latest
Jutkiewicz is an important player for Birmingham to have in their team since he adds competition and depth to their attacking department. In addition, he brings considerable experience to their ranks.
However, it remains to be seen if they will be ready to extend his stay. He’s not getting any younger, and they may look for some new blood in his position from now on.
He has been a terrific servant to the Midlands club in recent years, making 318 appearances in all competitions for them since signing in 2016, contributing 65 goals.
Jutkiewicz has appeared in 18 games this season, scoring twice, indicating that he is still seeing action.
He previously played for Swindon Town, Everton, Coventry City, Middlesbrough, and Burnley before joining the Blues seven years ago.
Birmingham have just dropped to 17th in the table, just four points above the relegation zone.
Their decision to cut ways with John Eustace hasn’t gone as planned, and Rooney is under pressure to start producing some more results.
They return to action tonight with a difficult road journey to Wales to face play-off contenders Cardiff City.
