The Atlanta Braves made a surprise roster move on Wednesday afternoon after a trade with the Los Angeles Angels. Following the signing of Shohei Ohtani by the Los Angeles Dodgers, Ronald Acuna Jr. issued a message to the team’s competitors. The Braves recently announced two coaching staff moves that will reduce Snittker’s staff for the 2024 season.
Braves Send Infielder to Triple-A Gwinnett
On Wednesday afternoon, reports surfaced revealing that the Braves have reassigned shortstop David Fletcher to their Triple-A Gwinnett Stripers affiliate. The announcement came via reporter David O’Brien on X.
O’Brien’s tweet read, “The #Braves outrighted David Fletcher to Triple-A Gwinnett. Doesn’t signal anything; they fully expect him to be their primary utility infielder. Just made this move for flexibility, since they knew they could do it and not lose him to another team, etc. Just a procedural move.”
Last season, Fletcher recorded a .247 batting average with two home runs and 12 RBIs across 89 at-bats for Snitker’s team. He participated in 31 games, tallying an OPS of .628. In the previous season, Fletcher posted a .255 batting average in 216 at-bats with two home runs and 17 RBIs.
During the 2021 season, he achieved a .262 batting average with 27 doubles, showcasing consistent power at the plate before transitioning into a utility role for the Braves.
Shortstop Orlando Arcia is slated to start at the position for the Braves next season.
He is the brother of former Major Leaguer Oswaldo Arcia and is known as “El Nino.”
Last season, Orlando Arcia batted.264 with 17 home runs and 64 RBI for a potent Braves offense. His.741 OPS ranks 100th in Major League Baseball, making it a source of debate for the Braves’ 29-year-old shortstop entering next season.
