In preparation for the anticipated return of Kai’mi Fairbairn to the active lineup, the Houston Texans have decided to part ways with kicker Matt Ammendola. This strategic move comes as Fairbairn, who has been sidelined since November due to a quad injury, is set to make his comeback against the Tennessee Titans this week. The team had placed Fairbairn on injured reserve during his recovery period.
During his stint with the Texans, Ammendola contributed in five games, successfully converting six out of nine field goal attempts and 10 of 11 extra-point opportunities. His notable achievement includes a long field goal from a distance of 45 yards. However, with Fairbairn’s return imminent, the Texans have opted to make adjustments to their roster, choosing to rely on the experienced Fairbairn for kicking duties.
In a related update concerning the Texans’ Week 14 game against the New York Jets, tight end Dalton Schultz is set to be inactive for the second consecutive week due to a hamstring injury. Schultz, a key player who has participated in 11 games this season, has accumulated 455 receiving yards from 40 catches, contributing significantly with five touchdowns. Joining Schultz on the sidelines for the upcoming game are Case Keenum, Mike Boone, DeAndre Houston-Carson, Myjai Sander, and Nick Broeker.
As the Texans make strategic decisions regarding their roster and player participation, the return of Fairbairn adds an element of anticipation and potential change to the team’s dynamics, particularly in the crucial kicking position. The team’s management appears focused on optimizing their lineup for the challenges presented by the upcoming matchups in the NFL season.
