BirminghamLive’s latest Birmingham City news features Marc Roberts’ response to the 1-0 win over Cardiff City. Following a morale-boosting win at Cardiff City, Marc Roberts aims to play a role in reviving Birmingham City’s season under Wayne Rooney.
Blues stopped an eight-game losing streak away from home with a 1-0 win over Cardiff on Wednesday night, thanks to Juninho Bacuna’s goal. Roberts contributed another impressive defensive performance to Blues’ sixth Championship clean sheet of the season.
“Never mind being away from home, with the run of results we’ve been on, it’s nice to get three points,” Roberts said afterwards. “It’s nice wherever you are.
“You go through these bad patches no matter where you play or what club you play for.” It’s not for a lack of effort; sometimes it just occurs. I know the supporters have been disappointed; maybe, this can serve as a springboard for us to move forward.”
Rooney has reinstalled Roberts in the Blues’ defense due to a mix of injuries and bad results. With the Yorkshireman’s no-nonsense style, Blues have looked more assured and solid.
“You can see what we’re trying to do, especially in the first half,” he continued. It hasn’t been easy; there has been a lot of change. The second half was the most satisfying for me because we had to dig in, front to back, every player put in a shift, and we restricted them when they had a decent run.”
