The Auburn quarterback learned a lot in his first year on The Plains.
“I’ve learned a lot this year,” Hank Brown, the Auburn quarterback who just finished his first regular season, said on Thursday.
The move from high school to college may be challenging for anyone, but student-athletes who must adjust on the fly while competing at a high level is something that many people take for granted.
Brown, who was initially committed to Hugh Freeze at Liberty, transferred to the SEC during the early signing period last December. In an interview on Thursday, I asked him what he learnt throughout his first year of college.
“The big thing that I just tried to do, and the perspective I tried to take is just to be able to sit back and learn as much as I could throughout this season with the coaches we have and, you know, with Payton (Thorne), just being able to learn from him and the way that he gets prepared every week.” Brown stated. “It’s just the intricate details.” I’ve learned a great deal. “I’ve discovered that the college football world is insane.”
College football has always been insane, but now that we’re in the transfer portal era, it’s gotten much wilder.
After our game against Alabama, especially with the emergence of the transfer portal, there’s been a lot of upheaval in the college football landscape, just pure chaos.
“It’s really strange,” Brown commented. “It’s an entirely new environment, and even some of the coaches are facing challenges. We have scheduled workouts and practices this week, but some of the players aren’t showing up, and it’s like, ‘well, they’re probably in the transfer portal.'”
In the midst of all this turmoil, Brown believes Auburn is managing the situation effectively.
“I’ve come to realize that this team has great potential. If many of the players can grasp the importance of patience in this puzzle, it will be beneficial. That’s something I’m personally working on—building stronger relationships across our program to elevate our team and enhance our performance.”
