EPSN News: Michigan Wolverines confirm now in final stage discussions to sign top super star

Rumors are circulating within Michigan football circles as the Wolverines gear up for their impending playoff showdown against Alabama. One prominent name making waves is Texas A&M’s offensive tackle, Chase Bisontis, a former four-star recruit recently honored with a place on ESPN’s All-American team. Bleacher Report’s Brad Shepard has ventured into predicting the destinations of top players in the college football transfer portal, speculating that Bisontis could find a new home with the Wolverines under the tutelage of head coach Jim Harbaugh.

In a December 12, 2023, article titled “Predicting Landing Spots for Biggest Names in the 2023 Transfer Portal,” Shepard highlighted Harbaugh’s track record of cultivating stellar offensive lines, making Michigan an attractive prospect for Bisontis. The 6’6″, 320-pound offensive lineman from New Jersey has proven his mettle by seamlessly stepping into the right tackle role for the Aggies, showcasing the ability to thwart edge-rushers and potentially finding his niche in the interior at guard. Shepard suggests that Bisontis could be the linchpin to fortify Michigan’s offensive line for the next few seasons.

However, the competition for Bisontis is fierce, with reports indicating that 26 teams have expressed interest in the talented player since he entered the transfer portal. While Michigan is in the mix, the Wolverines face stiff competition from other contenders like the Penn State Nittany Lions and Rutgers Scarlet Knights. The decision for Bisontis may hinge on factors such as proximity to his home in New Jersey and the allure of playing for a program known for consistently producing top-tier offensive lines.

Bisontis, who holds the distinction of being the No. 2 offensive lineman and the 72nd-ranked recruit in the 2023 class according to 247 Sports, could potentially reunite with a program that had previously offered him as a four-star recruit out of Don Bosco Prep. The parallels drawn between Bisontis and six-time Pro Bowler David DeCastro emphasize his physical prowess, with the young lineman’s strength and drive-blocking skills reminiscent of the seasoned NFL player.

Meanwhile, despite the transfer portal buzz and recruiting developments, attention is also directed at the upcoming Rose Bowl matchup against Alabama. In a noteworthy coaching development, former Michigan linebackers coach George Helow has joined Nick Saban’s coaching staff at Alabama, adding an intriguing subplot as the Crimson Tide prepare to face Helow’s former team in the College Football Playoff semifinal at the Rose Bowl. The coaching dynamics and transfer portal activities set the stage for an eventful period for Michigan football, both on and off the field.
