Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze stated Saturday that defensive back Nehemiah Pritchett would be one of three Auburn players who would opt out of the Tigers’ bowl game on Dec. 30, and Pritchett confirmed the news on social media.
“I will not be participating in our upcoming bowl game because I will be focusing on preparing for the 2024 NFL Draft,” Pritchett stated in a farewell to Auburn Instagram post.
“Pritchett expressed that selecting Auburn University marked one of the pivotal moments in his life. Attaining a degree and engaging in football at this institution stood out as significant blessings for him. The lasting memories forged during his time at Auburn will persist as he pursues his aspirations.
Joining The Plains in 2019 as a 3-star recruit from Jackson, Pritchett opted for Auburn over other notable options such as Appalachian State, Indiana, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Virginia Tech, and more.
When faced with the choice of turning professional or returning to Auburn last season, he ultimately decided on the latter.
Throughout the 2023 regular season, Pritchett participated in nine games, missing the first three due to an undisclosed injury. In those appearances, he amassed 22 tackles, three pass breakups, and an interception. Pro Football Focus granted him a 71.1 grade for the season, conceding only one touchdown on 26 targets.
PFF ranks Pritchett as the 14th-best cornerback prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft, trailing behind his teammate, DJ James, by two positions.”
