Breaking news: Detroit Pistons linked to blockbuster trade for rising Toronto Raptors star

The latest report suggests that the Detroit Pistons might enter the pursuit of highly sought-after Toronto Raptors forward OG Anunoby.

The beginning of the 2023-24 season has been a complete catastrophe for the Detroit Pistons. Despite acquiring former NBA Coach of the Year Monty Williams and drafting Ausar Thompson from Overtime Elite, the team is enduring one of its most severe losing streaks in franchise history.

With a 22-game losing streak heading into their upcoming matchup against the Atlanta Hawks on Monday night, Detroit is nearing the all-time record of 28 consecutive losses, a record set by the 2014-15 and 2015-16 Philadelphia 76ers. The team urgently requires a change to alter their trajectory, considering their two-win standing, aiming for a better season finish and setting the stage for a substantial turnaround in 2024-25.

Detroit Pistons record (2023): 2-24

The Detroit Pistons seem poised to explore opportunities in the NBA trade market before the February deadline as a means to enhance their roster. A prominent player potentially available for trade is Toronto’s defensive standout and emerging talent, OG Anunoby. Last winter, Anunoby garnered considerable interest from multiple teams, but the Raptors reportedly set a high asking price given the remaining year on his contract.

However, with Anunoby entering the final year of his contract, there appears to be increased likelihood of a trade, and Detroit is expressing interest in participating in the discussions. According to insights from The Athletic’s NBA reporter James L. Edwards III, the Pistons are anticipated to actively engage in the trade market in the coming weeks, specifically targeting a forward position. Anunoby is among the players on their radar, and it’s noted that interest in acquiring him extends beyond Detroit to various teams across the league.

Edwards III does mention that the Detroit Pistons might wait until the summer and try to sign the 26-year-old when he becomes available. Furthermore, he adds that veteran Philadelphia 76ers guard Tobias Harris could be another Pistons target in the near future.
