Done Deal:Just In Florida State confirmed the signing of another top super star

Edge defender Marvin Jones Jr. has committed to Florida State (FSU) as a transfer from Georgia, where he will complete his college football career as a Seminole. The commitment follows an official visit to FSU during the final weekend before the winter dead period in the recruiting calendar, shortly after entering the Transfer Portal.

Marvin Jones Jr., the son of FSU legend Marvin Jones Sr., brings a 93-grade rating as a Top 20 prospect in the 2024 transfer cycle. He was ranked as the No. 21 prospect nationally in the 2022 recruiting cycle during his prep years at Ft. Lauderdale’s American Heritage. At that time, he closely considered playing for FSU and took an official visit to the program before ultimately signing with Georgia.

In his two seasons at Georgia, Jones Jr. played in 300 snaps, accumulating 16 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss (TFL), and two sacks in 25 total games. He started in Georgia’s SEC Championship defeat to Alabama earlier in the month. Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 250 pounds, Jones Jr. possesses an optimal frame and promising athletic traits that are still in development. With two years of eligibility remaining, his upside is a key factor in his high ranking as a transfer prospect.

Jones Jr.’s commitment is crucial for FSU, especially with Jared Verse expected to go pro. FSU aims to bolster its pass rush, and Jones Jr. is seen as a strong candidate to help fill the void left by the departing All-ACC defender. FSU has had success in the Transfer Portal with edge defenders, previously landing Jermaine Johnson from Georgia, who went on to be an All-ACC defender and a first-round draft pick. The addition of Jones Jr. enhances FSU’s defensive capabilities and strengthens their outlook for the upcoming seasons.
