Fabian Schar has resorted to social media to allay anxieties after being pulled off with an injury in the first 15 minutes of Saturday’s game against Fulham.
Schar collapsed after moving the ball forward out of defense and was replaced by Emil Krafth. Shortly after, Raul Jimenez was issued a straight red card for a challenge on Sean Longstaff. Joelinton was then forced out with a hamstring injury in the first half for The Magpies and was replaced by Lewis Miley. Miley scored his first goal for Newcastle in the second half, and the hosts went on to win 3-0.
Schar headed to Instagram after the match to provide a brief update: “Great result. “I hope to return soon.” Newcastle manager Eddie Howe also stated that Schar and Joelinton’s injuries were not “serious,” but both players are questionable for Tuesday’s Carabao Cup quarter-final against Chelsea (8 p.m. kick-off).
“I think Fabby’s is a glute problem, I don’t think it’s a hamstring, and Joey’s possibly might be a hamstring,” he said.
“Obviously, that is the disadvantage. We don’t believe they’re serious, but to put it bluntly, they’re short-term issues for us that we can’t easily traverse at the moment.
“We thought we’d made it through the worst of our injury situation.” Now that it’s reared its ugly head again, let’s simply see where we are.”
Newcastle may also be without attacker Alexander Isak, who missed Saturday’s game due to a groin injury. However, the Magpies will be without numerous first-team players due to the club’s persistent injury issue.
In addition to Schar, Joelinton, and Isak, the Magpies are missing Elliot Anderson, Joe Willock, Jacob Murphy, Harvey Barnes, Nick Pope, Matt Targett, and Javier Manquillo through injury, while Sandro Tonali is suspended for the rest of the season.
