Auburn JACK Jalen McLeod Returning For Final Season

Auburn University’s football team is set to welcome back Jalen McLeod, a key pass rusher who plays the JACK position, for the 2024 season. McLeod, who transferred from Appalachian State, will return for another year, as confirmed by multiple reports. This decision is significant for Auburn, as McLeod has been a crucial contributor, ranking second on the team in sacks during the previous season.

In the regular season, McLeod showcased his skills, amassing 44 total tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, and 5.5 sacks. Despite a challenging start to the season due to injuries, McLeod demonstrated resilience and turned up his performance as the season progressed. His decision to return for another season will likely bolster Auburn’s defense, providing experience and expertise at the JACK position.

On the flip side, safety Zion Puckett has opted to enter the 2024 NFL Draft after completing five seasons with Auburn. Puckett, who will participate in the bowl game against Maryland, leaves behind a notable career with the Tigers. Over his five seasons, he accumulated 146 career total tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, one sack, and two interceptions, both of which were recorded in the most recent season.

The departure of Puckett, coupled with other veteran defensive backs leaving, presents a challenge for Auburn’s defense. The team will need to groom and prepare its young core of freshman safeties and defensive backs to step up and carry a significant load in the upcoming season. As Auburn navigates these changes, having Jalen McLeod’s experience and skill set for another season will likely be a valuable asset in maintaining defensive prowess.
