Auburn RB Jarquez Hunter send strong message amid Auburn Return for for 2024 season

Auburn’s primary running back, Jarquez Hunter, has recently disclosed that he is grappling with the decision of whether to return for the 2024 season or explore opportunities in the NFL. Speaking to the media at the Woltosz Football Performance Center on Tuesday, Hunter emphasized his current focus on preparing for the upcoming Music City Bowl on December 30. Throughout the 2023 season, Hunter’s contemplations about his future oscillated between staying for another collegiate season and making the leap to the professional level.

As of mid-December, Hunter has not arrived at a definitive decision regarding his football career beyond the current season, and he has not established a specific timeline for making such a choice. Despite having one more year of eligibility, Hunter’s uncertainty has left fans and analysts speculating about his next move.

In the 2023 season, Hunter showcased his prowess as Auburn’s leading rusher, accumulating an impressive 865 yards. Initially facing challenges, he gradually excelled, breaking the 100-yard rushing mark in three of the last five games. His pivotal role in Auburn’s offensive resurgence during the latter part of the season solidified his status as a key weapon for the team.

However, Hunter’s journey in the 2023 season was marked by uncertainty and off-field controversies. During the summer, questions arose about his status following the leak of a sex tape on Twitter purportedly featuring Hunter. Auburn responded with indefinite suspensions, citing “videos posted on social media.” Head coach Hugh Freeze refrained from commenting on disciplinary issues, creating an air of uncertainty surrounding Hunter’s participation in fall camp.

Despite missing the season opener against UMass, Hunter eventually returned to the lineup, contributing to Auburn’s success on the field. If he decides to return for the 2024 season, Auburn could potentially retain all four of its top running backs, setting the stage for continued success in the rushing game, which played a crucial role in the team’s 2023 performance—racking up 2,692 yards with an impressive five yards per attempt. As the suspense lingers, fans await Hunter’s final decision, eager to see whether he’ll don the Auburn jersey for another season or take the next step in his football journey.
