Former Auburn WR Omari Kelly announces commitment to Middle Tennessee State.
Former Auburn wide receiver Omari Kelly has announced his commitment to Middle Tennessee State, signaling a new chapter in his collegiate football career. Kelly, who was among the first Auburn receivers to enter the transfer portal on December 1, has now found a new home with Middle Tennessee State.
Following Kelly’s entry into the transfer portal, several other Auburn receivers, including Jyaire Shorter, Malcolm Johnson Jr., and Ja’Varrius Johnson, also began exploring opportunities to transfer, leading to a significant overhaul of Auburn’s wide receiver room.
In a related development, on December 10, Kendall Simmons, a former Auburn All-American player and analyst on the coaching staff since 2019, announced his departure from Auburn. Simmons revealed that he would be taking on the role of offensive line coach at Middle Tennessee State under new head coach Derek Mason, who served as the defensive coordinator at Auburn in 2022.
Omari Kelly, a former 4-star recruit out of Hewitt-Trussville, had a limited role during the 2023 season, appearing in just eight games and making two total catches for 45 yards. His commitment to Middle Tennessee State marks a fresh start for the talented wide receiver as he looks to make an impact with his new team.
