It seems that the Texas Longhorns have made a significant addition to their secondary with the commitment of former Clemson Tigers safety Andrew Mukuba. Mukuba, an Austin native, chose the Longhorns over several other notable programs, including the Oklahoma Sooners, Oregon Ducks, USC Trojans, and Ole Miss Rebels.
The official announcement came during Wednesday’s early signing period, with Mukuba signing his letter of intent to join the Texas Longhorns.
Andrew Mukuba, ranked as the No. 1 safety in the transfer portal, played a crucial role in Clemson’s defense, which ranked impressively in various categories, including No. 5 in pass defense, No. 27 in rush defense, and No. 7 in total defense. In the last season, he contributed as the third-highest tackler on the team with 42 tackles, two tackles for loss, and six pass breakups.
Over the past three seasons, Mukuba has participated in 35 games, accumulating 143 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, and 16 pass breakups.
The timing of Mukuba’s addition is crucial for the Longhorns, especially considering the losses they’ve faced in the secondary due to transfers and graduations. The STAR position, previously occupied by Jahdae Barron, could see Mukuba as a natural fit, addressing a significant positional need for Texas as they transition to the SEC.
Regardless of his specific role, it is anticipated that Mukuba will make a substantial impact from Day 1 and contribute significantly to the Longhorns’ defense. His experience and skills make him a valuable addition to Texas as they aim for success in the upcoming seasons.
