ESPN New: Houston Texans confirmed the Acquiring of another star to Practice Squad

The Houston Texans are making strategic moves to fortify their quarterback depth amid the uncertainty surrounding rookie C.J. Stroud, who is currently in concussion protocol. In response to Stroud’s lingering concussion symptoms following the Week 14 loss to the Jets, the Texans are bolstering their roster by signing quarterback Tim Boyle to the practice squad, as reported by Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 in Houston.

Stroud’s availability for the upcoming game against Cleveland remains in doubt due to his ongoing concussion symptoms. In the event that Stroud is unable to play, seasoned veteran Case Keenum is anticipated to secure another start against his former team. Keenum recently guided the Texans to an overtime victory over the Titans in his previous start for Houston.

The Texans’ need for additional quarterback support became evident with Stroud’s uncertain status. Despite their efforts to claim Nathan Rourke after his waiver by the Jaguars, the Patriots emerged victorious in the waiver claim battle, prompting the Texans to explore alternative options.

Jets will start QB Tim Boyle vs. Dolphins, Trevor Siemian will be the backup

Tim Boyle, the newly signed quarterback, previously spent the early part of the 2023 season with the Jets. Initially brought in as a backup for Aaron Rodgers, Boyle found himself thrust into the starting lineup mid-season. Unfortunately, the Jets experienced defeats in both of his starts, and Boyle, in three games, managed one touchdown against four interceptions. Having commenced his career in Green Bay, Boyle also endured winless starts with the Lions in 2021 and made a brief appearance for the Bears in 2022, throwing two interceptions in eight pass attempts.

While it seems improbable for Boyle to see significant playing time in Houston, especially if Stroud returns to the field before the season concludes, he adds depth to the quarterback roster, likely serving as the QB3 behind Keenum and former starter Davis Mills. The Texans are strategically reinforcing their quarterback lineup to navigate the challenges posed by Stroud’s injury and to maintain a resilient and competitive squad for the remainder of the season.
