Just In: Dolphins Star Named AFC Player Of The Week, Does He Deserve It ?

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The NFL has declared Bradley Chubb, Miami Dolphins linebacker, as the AFC Defensive Player of the Week following his remarkable performance in the victory against the N.Y. Jets last Sunday. This marks Chubb’s inaugural recognition as the AFC Defensive Player of the Week in his career.

Chubb exhibited an outstanding display by contributing seven tackles, 3.0 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, two tackles for loss, and three quarterback hits in Miami’s triumph. His three sacks in a game made him the first Dolphins player since Nov. 28, 2021 (Jaelan Phillips vs. Carolina) to achieve this feat. Both of his forced fumbles resulted in recoveries for Miami – the first, recovered by Zach Sieler, setting up the Dolphins at the 1-yard line in the initial Jets drive, and the second, which Chubb retrieved himself in the fourth quarter. He currently leads the NFL this season with six forced fumbles and is the team leader with 9.5 sacks.

Bradley Chubb failing to make impact expected of No. 5 draft pick. Here's what Broncos can do about it.

Chubb played a pivotal role in the Dolphins’ resounding 30-0 victory, marking the team’s first shutout since Oct. 18, 2020 (vs. N.Y. Jets). Miami’s defense allowed a mere 103 total yards, the second-lowest in Dolphins history. This win brings Miami’s season record to 10-4, a milestone not achieved since 2000.

This accolade adds to the Dolphins’ impressive tally of five Player of the Week awards this season. Previously, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa secured AFC Offensive Player of the Week in Week 1 against the L.A. Chargers, while running back De’Von Achane earned the honor in Week 3 versus Denver. Additionally, running back Raheem Mostert was recognized in Week 6 against Carolina, and cornerback Jalen Ramsey claimed the accolade in Week 11 against Las Vegas.

The last time the Dolphins amassed at least five Player of the Week awards in a single season was in 2002, with defensive end Jason Taylor and running back Ricky Williams earning recognition multiple times, alongside defensive end Adewale Ogunleye. Furthermore, the last instance of five different Miami players securing Player of the Week honors within a single season was in 1999. Cornerback Sam Madison received the award thrice, quarterback Dan Marino and kicker Olindo Mare twice each, while punt returner Nate Jacquet and defensive end Trace Armstrong received the honor once during the Wild Card round.

This season marks the first occasion in Dolphins history when five different players have secured Player of the Week awards in a single regular season.
