Official jersey numbers have been announced for a trio of Braves

The Atlanta Braves have officially assigned jersey numbers to three of their recent additions for the upcoming 2024 season. Notable changes include Aaron Bummer, Reynaldo López, and Jarred Kelenic.

Aaron Bummer, previously donning No. 39 with the White Sox, will showcase a fresh look with the Braves, now wearing No. 49. This switch became possible when Kolby Allard chose Free Agency over returning to Atlanta. Despite a challenging 2023 season, finishing with a 5-5 record and a 6.79 ERA, Bummer’s improved second half has heightened expectations for his role in the Braves bullpen.

Reynaldo López, retaining his number from his time with the Chicago White Sox, will continue to wear No. 40. This number became available after the Braves traded Michael Soroka to Chicago in exchange for Aaron Bummer. López, who played for three different teams in 2023 (White Sox, Angels, Guardians), compiled a 3-7 record with a 3.27 ERA in 66 innings pitched.

Jarred Kelenic, transitioning from the Seattle Mariners, where he wore No. 10 (a number retired in honor of Chipper Jones in Atlanta), has opted for a change. Kelenic, entering his age-24 season, will now sport No. 24, a number that became available when Braden Shewmake was traded to the White Sox for Aaron Bummer.

As of now, reliever Penn Murfee and recently-acquired Ray Kerr are the only players listed on the team’s online roster without assigned jersey numbers for the upcoming season.
