The Gators first signed the huge defensive lineman in June. Williams, on the other hand, surprised the Gators by signing with a division foe on Wednesday. According to the 247Sports rankings, Williams is the 34th best overall player in the class, the 12th best defensive lineman, and the top player from North Carolina.
Florida continues to lose quality prospects
Williams is the most recent high-profile recruit to defect from the Gators. Xavier Filsaime, Adarius Hayes, and Nasir Johnson have all just decommitted from the Gators.
The Tigers currently find themselves in a favorable position. Presently, they hold the No. 8 spot for the 2024 class, a standing that’s notably strengthened by the inclusion of talented prospects such as Cam Coleman, Perry Thompson, and Demarcus Riddick, among others.
Williams, in discussing his decision to switch allegiance to the Tigers, highlighted the significance of his relationship with the coaching staff.
“I was drawn by the opportunity to play early and the quality of individuals I’ll be surrounded by daily,” Williams expressed regarding his choice. “Especially, the coaching team I’ll have the privilege to learn from – Coach JG (Jeremy Garrett), Coach Trell (Vontrell King-Williams), and Coach Freeze.”
Looking ahead, the Tigers aim to finalize their 2024 class with strength, gearing up for improvement in the upcoming season. They are set to kick off the 2024 season on August 31, facing Alabama A&M as they prepare for the challenges ahead.
