Eddie Howe suggests Key Newcastle player could actually be involved vs Luton tomorrow

Newcastle United is facing concerns regarding Anthony Gordon’s fitness ahead of their upcoming match against Luton Town on Saturday afternoon.

The 22-year-old’s participation is in serious doubt following an injury sustained during the Carabao Cup match against Chelsea. Gordon was subjected to a harsh tackle by Moises Caicedo early in the game, which surprisingly did not result in a red card. Initially, it seemed he might continue, but he had to leave the game early in the second half due to the injury.

Gordon joins the list of injured Newcastle players, and his potential absence would significantly weaken the team’s attacking options. Should he be unable to play, there’s a possibility that Matt Ritchie could be in line for a starting spot against Luton. Ritchie hasn’t started a Premier League game since December 2021.

However, there hasn’t been an official ruling out of Gordon’s participation. Eddie Howe, the manager, has provided a glimmer of hope to the fans by suggesting that there’s a chance Gordon could still feature in this weekend’s match at Kenilworth Road.

Eddie Howe provides an update on Anthony Gordon injury

Howe speaks to the media ahead of Newcastle’s game against Luton Town. He gave an update on Gordon’s status after he was injured on Tuesday night.

“”Anthony [Gordon] was in pain,” he explained.

“It was a horrible challenge on him. I am really disappointed with the tackle.

“We will see how he is today.”

Big boost for Newcastle if Gordon is fit to play against Luton Town

Newcastle’s decision regarding Gordon’s availability is still pending, which is somewhat encouraging as it suggests his injury might not be severe.

Evaluating updates from Eddie Howe regarding injuries can be challenging, as his reports often lack transparency, offering only partial information when discussing players with the media.

Howe has indicated that a final call on Gordon will be made closer to the game, and ideally, he’ll be fit enough to participate. Gordon’s presence against Luton is crucial given his significant impact in the team’s attacking plays.

This season, the winger has been exceptional, tallying six goals and six assists, showcasing remarkable numbers. It would be a positive development if he could contribute further in Saturday’s match.

Whether Gordon will take part remains uncertain, but the possibility of his involvement against Luton is a glimmer of hope. Considering the severity of Caicedo’s tackle, the chance of Gordon being in contention is indeed a significant positive for the team.
