Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford showcased another impressive performance on Thursday night, marking his fourth consecutive game as the first Rams quarterback to throw for a minimum of two touchdowns without any interceptions.
Stafford’s exceptional level of play has propelled the Rams to an 8-7 record with two games left in the season. Positioned as the NFC’s current No. 6 seed, the team stands favorably to secure a playoff spot—a scenario that appeared improbable at the start of the season.
While Stafford’s arrival in 2021 signified a period of growth and development, this season was expected to emphasize the progress of younger players like receiver Puka Nacua. Nonetheless, Stafford emphasized after Thursday’s victory that he’s evolving alongside them, stating, “I’m taking them right there with them.”
Reflecting on the team’s dynamic, Stafford highlighted the unique nature of this season’s journey compared to his previous experiences. He expressed enjoyment in working with his teammates, witnessing their cohesion, mutual support, and relentless work ethic, noting their preparation and unity as crucial factors in their success.
Following their Week 10 bye, the Rams have secured victory in five out of six games, consistently scoring a minimum of 28 points in the last five matchups. Despite their slightly mixed efficiency in the red zone and goal-to-go situations, going 3-of-6 and 1-of-2 respectively, the team has grasped the significance of each game since their initial 3-6 start, showcasing a heightened awareness of the stakes involved in every contest.
“Well, ever since we returned from the bye, we’ve been playing for something,” Stafford remarked. “I believe we’ve earned this position where we are right now. So, we’re embracing every opportunity to step out and compete every day. It’s a reflection of our practice ethic—we challenge each other to ensure we’re fully prepared when game day arrives, ready to give it our all.
“Talking about stakes, well, to be honest, we’ve been operating with stakes since the bye. I’m really proud of how these guys have committed themselves, worked diligently, relied on each other, and it’s paying off.”
In the recent win, Stafford’s performance stood out, going 24-of-34, totaling 328 yards with two touchdowns. Across 14 games, Stafford’s completion rate stands at 62 percent, amassing 3,648 yards with 23 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
With two games remaining, the Rams’ potential success hinges on Stafford’s performance and what he can achieve with his throwing arm.
