Breaking News: Sooners loses another star to transfer portal following Dillon Gabriel’s departure to Oregon

The transfer portal in college football has experienced a surge in entries, including high-profile names like Dillon Gabriel, the former standout from Oklahoma, who is set to join the Oregon Ducks for his final year of college football. However, Oklahoma has faced another blow as quarterback Davis Beville has decided to enter the transfer portal, a move reported by Pete Nakos of On3.

Beville, a senior who had previously played for Pitt before joining Oklahoma, has now made the decision to explore his options via the transfer portal. He has a record of appearing in 15 games and has accumulated 339 passing yards throughout his career.

Following the announcement of his entry into the transfer portal, Beville shared a highlight reel of his performances from his time at Pitt and Oklahoma on his X account.

Beville initially began his college career at Pitt, spending two seasons there before joining the Oklahoma football program. However, upon joining Oklahoma, he found himself behind Dillon Gabriel in the depth chart and later fell further behind the promising freshman, Jackson Arnold.

During his time with the Sooners, Beville’s sole start occurred in 2022 during the Red River Rivalry game, which ended in a disappointing 49-0 loss. With only one year of eligibility remaining, his decision to enter the transfer portal aligns with the anticipation of Arnold assuming the starting quarterback role in 2024 and beyond. Additionally, the arrivals of Michael Hawkins and Brendan Zurbrugg to the program in 2024 further crowded the quarterback landscape at Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma football team, currently boasting a 10-2 record, is slated to conclude its season at the Alamo Bowl against Arizona on December 28 in San Antonio. This game presents an opportunity for Sooners fans to witness Jackson Arnold taking the reins at quarterback, providing a glimpse into the potential future of the position for the team.
