Arthur Blank Finally Sends Strong Message To Arthur Smith’s after Falcons Win Amid Sack Rumors

Following the Atlanta Falcons’ victory over the Indianapolis Colts, in which they scored a season-high 29 points, speculation about head coach Arthur Smith’s job security has been a focal point. The Falcons’ offense accumulated 406 yards, with quarterback Taylor Heinicke contributing 229 yards and a touchdown on nearly 70% passing. The absence of turnovers in Heinicke’s performance has drawn attention, given the competition for the starting quarterback position.

Prior to the game, there were widespread discussions about Smith’s job security, prompting team owner Arthur Blank to publicly support the head coach last week, emphasizing that a thorough evaluation would take place after the season. Despite the Falcons’ impressive win against the Colts, Blank’s stance on Smith’s future remains consistent.

When questioned about Smith’s job security after the victory, Blank reiterated his previous statement, stating, “We’re gonna play these last three games; we play ’em to win ’em. And we’ll let the season play out and go from there. Obviously, this has not been the kind of year we expected.”

While Blank acknowledged the challenges and complexity of such decisions, he emphasized the need to consider multiple factors and make decisions that represent the franchise, fans, players, and coaches. Blank expressed the weight of the decision-making process, stating, “These are very complex decisions. There’s a million factors that go into it. You know you have to represent the franchise, the fans, the players, the coaches — everybody. You have to make the right decision for the right reason, and you have to live with those consequences.”

Despite the difficult decision looming, Blank highlighted the importance of making choices that align with the best interests of the franchise. He acknowledged the guidance he received from his mother about making decisions and living with the consequences.

The Falcons owner’s decision will likely be influenced not only by the team’s performance but also by the players’ loyalty and support for Smith. Defensive lineman Calais Campbell emphasized the positive energy in the locker room and players’ belief in Smith’s leadership, indicating that, despite underwhelming results, there hasn’t been a loss of loyalty among the team.

Ultimately, the fate of Arthur Smith’s tenure with the Falcons appears to hinge on the remaining games of the season, with Blank maintaining a cautious and evaluative approach as the team concludes its 2023 campaign.
