Florida State quarterback Tate Rodemaker has decided to enter the transfer portal, as confirmed by his announcement to ESPN on Monday. A redshirt junior, Rodemaker, who originally joined the Seminoles as a three-star recruit from Georgia in the 2020 class, played a backup role to Jordan Travis during the last season. Despite being the starter against Florida when Travis was injured, Rodemaker threw for 134 yards with no touchdowns in the victory over the Gators. Throughout the season, he accumulated 510 yards and five touchdowns without any interceptions. However, he sustained an injury against Florida and was unable to participate in the ACC championship game against Louisville.
Although Rodemaker would have been cleared to play in the Capital One Orange Bowl against Georgia, he has opted to forego the game and focus on transferring. In his absence, Florida State will turn to freshman Brock Glenn, who threw for 55 yards in the conference championship game against Louisville.
Florida State will face challenges in the bowl game as several key players have opted out. Running back Trey Benson, wide receiver Johnny Wilson, and defensive end Jared Verse have all declared early for the NFL draft and will not participate. Tight end Jaheim Bell and defensive tackle Fabien Lovett have entered the draft but have not confirmed their availability for the bowl game.
Despite the challenges, FSU coach Mike Norvell expressed confidence in Brock Glenn, emphasizing the evolving landscape of college athletics and the opportunities it presents. Additionally, with Jordan Travis moving on after the season, the quarterback position remains a concern for the coaching staff. Norvell has been actively pursuing transfers in the form of Cameron Ward and DJ Uiagalelei, but as of now, no commitment has been secured from either transfer quarterback.
