In a recent radio appearance on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show,” New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was pressed about whether he would appreciate a public statement of support from team owner Robert Kraft, similar to what New York Jets owner Woody Johnson did for his general manager and head coach. Belichick, known for his tight-lipped approach, deflected the question and redirected the focus to the upcoming game against the Buffalo Bills.
“I don’t really know anything about the Jets situation. I don’t know anything about that. (Going) to get ready for Buffalo here. Go back over the Denver game, make some corrections on that and talk about things we could have done better, things we need to build on, and then move on to Buffalo. That’s what I’m doing,” Belichick stated during the radio appearance.
When probed further about Robert Kraft’s apparent silence amid the Patriots’ challenging season, Belichick maintained his reluctance to delve into the topic, emphasizing that his primary responsibility is preparing the team for each game.
“Yeah, my job is to get the team ready to play every week, that’s what I do. That’s what I’m going to keep doing. That’s what I’ve always done,” Belichick asserted.
The Patriots secured their fourth win of the season on Christmas Eve with a 26-23 victory over the Denver Broncos. Speculation has arisen regarding the possibility of Kraft and the Patriots parting ways with Belichick at the conclusion of the season. As the focus shifts to facing the Buffalo Bills for the second time this season, Belichick remains committed to his coaching duties, with the team set to wrap up the 2023 season with a home game against the Jets. The uncertainty surrounding Belichick’s future adds intrigue to the question of whether the upcoming game against the Jets will mark his last as the head coach of the New England Patriots. Only time will reveal the outcome of this ongoing storyline.
