PITSBURGH – The AFC North scenario is changing, and despite being in control of their playoff destiny, the Cleveland Browns have lost another quarterback for the season, leaving them with scant depth on the roster.
Dorian Thompson-Robinson, the Browns’ rookie quarterback, has been placed on injured reserve with a hip injury. The youngster started three games and appeared in eight others this season, but he will not be suspended for the rest of the season.
Cleveland has already placed starter Deshaun Watson on injured reserve due to a shoulder issue this season. They’ve since added P.J. Walker back to their active roster, giving Joe Flacco backup for the rest of 2023.
With a 10-5 record, the Browns are presently the fifth seed in the AFC. With back-to-back defeats, the Steelers might catch them at 10-7, but Pittsburgh’s efforts will likely be concentrated on beating out the Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts for the final wildcard slot. The Browns will be in a difficult scenario next season, as Flacco has stated that he does not want to retire after the season. With Watson carrying a $63 million cap cost in 2024, Cleveland may be forced to fire Flacco regardless of how far he leads the team into the playoffs.
