The Oklahoma football team is facing another departure as wide receiver LV Bunkley-Shelton has entered the transfer portal, adding to a series of losses for the Sooners this offseason. The transfer portal has been active for Oklahoma, with star quarterback Dillon Gabriel already departing for Oregon.
Bunkley-Shelton, who had limited playing time this season with just three catches for 33 yards and no touchdowns, has decided to explore other opportunities. Despite his limited contributions at Oklahoma, he had previously showcased his skills during his time at Arizona State, where he recorded 33 receptions for 418 yards and two touchdowns in his second year.
Interestingly, this is not Bunkley-Shelton’s first experience with the transfer portal. Before joining Oklahoma, he played for Arizona State, and now he has decided to make another move. While he may not have made a significant impact during his time with the Sooners, his previous performances with the Sun Devils demonstrate his potential as a solid receiving option.
Oklahoma has experienced a series of changes this offseason, with players coming and going. The move to the SEC next season has heightened the importance of roster improvements as the Sooners prepare for a more challenging schedule.
As for the current season, the Sooners have one more game remaining in the Alamo Bowl against #14 Arizona. Despite finishing the regular season with a solid 10-2 record, Oklahoma is entering the bowl game as a three-point underdog. The outcome of the bowl game will cap off the 2023 campaign for the Sooners before they embark on a new chapter in the SEC.
