This Sunday, the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers will stop at nothing to win. Both sides are 7-8 going into the game on Sunday. The loser will be all but eliminated, while the winner will still have a strong opportunity to go to the postseason.
According to reports today, the Vikings have added a last-minute player for their game versus the Packers.
Before playing the Green Bay Packers, the Minnesota Vikings signed an emergency linebacker.
Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk claims that:
The Vikings announced on Friday that they had added veteran linebacker Anthony Barr from their practice squad to their main roster.
In November of 2014, Barr—who the Vikings drafted in the first round of the draft—joined the practice squad.
Barr was added to the active roster by the Vikings for their games against the Bears in Week 12 and their trip to Denver in Week 11. Barr has one tackle and one fumble recovery in 26 defensive snaps.
After putting outside linebacker D.J. Wonnum on injured reserve, the team had a roster spot available. Wonnum’s quadriceps muscle needed to be repaired surgically.
The Vikings added Barr to their roster of 53 players and re-signed linebacker Nick Vigil to their practice squad.
What Effect Will This Have On Sunday’s Game?
Given that Barr played his first eight years of his career with the Vikings, Packers fans are undoubtedly familiar with him. Barr has been studying the new Vikings defensive scheme run by Brian Flores for the last five or so weeks. Flores was Barr’s defensive scheme mentor under Mike Zimmer from 2014 to 21. Zimmer had mastered the double-A gap look that the Vikings use as part of their several tactics this season.
Barr’s actual snap total on Sunday will be interesting to watch, but it’s probable that he will want to get out there and take on his old foe.
