Von Miller’s career is suffering towards its conclusion due to a significant legal issue that took over the end of his 2023 season. The Buffalo Bills have assembled one of the most talented NFL rosters in recent years, notably acquiring former Defensive Player of the Year Von Miller. Despite a challenging start to the season, Buffalo has surged strongly in the last couple of months, positioning themselves for a potential AFC East victory. However, with a crucial upcoming game against division leader Miami Dolphins, it’s crucial to steer clear of any off-field controversies. Unfortunately, it appears that one of the team’s key players has stirred up significant off-field drama.
Bills’ Von Miller Playing Status Locked in for Week 17
Regrettably, Miller has garnered recent attention for the wrong reasons, following his arrest for assaulting a pregnant woman. This week, he finds himself embroiled in a legal battle due to these allegations. The news was disclosed by NFL Insider Ian Rapoport.

“It’s been a crazy month,” Miller told reporters in an opening statement before he took questions at a press conference Thursday. “Obviously, there are things that I can’t talk about but everything that was out is completely wrong and blown out of proportion.”
Miller surrendered to police on Thursday after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was released on a $5,000 bond and will be going through the legal battles as well.
“Me and my girlfriend, we have problems just like any other couple does but there has never been any of those things that was alleged against me,” he added. “Hopefully, over time all of this stuff will get cleared up. Life, sometimes life just… be life-ing. You’ve just got to keep pushing and keep moving. The people who know me and the people who have been around me know my character, they know who I am.”
When questioned by reporters, the linebacker vehemently denied the accuracy of the allegations against him, stating that all of the accusations were false and inaccurate, as reported by ESPN. He emphasized that his relationship has never involved any instances of domestic violence and highlighted that he and his girlfriend are anticipating the arrival of their third son, according to the same source.
This season, Miller has encountered challenges staying on the field. Due to the domestic violence charges, the decision has been made for him to sit out as a healthy scratch for the Week 17 game against the New England Patriots. Despite being a significant acquisition for Buffalo in the previous season, he has notably failed to make an impact, especially in the current season. Throughout this year, he has only managed to secure two tackles, rendering him inconsequential in the team’s pass rush.
Buffalo’s franchise deserves ample recognition for demonstrating moral strength by essentially benching a star player following a domestic violence incident. As a society, we’ve often grappled with defending athletes involved in such situations far too frequently. Even in 2023, it’s shocking to consider that former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice, captured on video brutally assaulting his girlfriend in an elevator in 2014, is now being honored in Baltimore. Despite never playing another NFL game after the incident, he’s slated for recognition this Sunday. This highlights the complexity of how society views and responds to such incidents involving athletes, especially in the context of recognition and forgiveness.
Buffalo’s decision to take a stand against the NFL by sidelining a star player due to a domestic violence issue sends a powerful message. It signifies that the team refuses to tolerate such behavior, going against the league’s norms. This action reflects a pivotal shift away from sweeping such incidents under the rug. It’s a clear indication that players are being held accountable for their actions, highlighting the importance of addressing and confronting domestic violence issues in professional sports. This stance signifies a broader commitment toward ensuring accountability and integrity, setting a precedent for how the league handles similar situations in the future.
