As the Portal Turns: Tigers Gain One Player, Lose Another
Austin Ausberry in, Jalen Brown out
The deadline to enter the transfer portal ended Tuesday and LSU saw another vital piece to their 2023 class enter shortly before the deadline passed.
Freshman wide receiver Jalen Brown allegedly put his name into the portal. Brown was a high four-star prospect and was a consensus top-100 overall talent. Brown is originally from the Miami region and will have four years of eligibility remaining. He participated in three games this season and did not register any statistics.
Brown entered his name in the portal hours after fellow true freshman Zalance Heard put his name in. Brown was LSU’s fifth highest ranked commit in its 2023 class, while Heard was No. 1.
But of course although portal taketh, it also giveth and LSU got some secondary help in the figure of Austin Ausberry. Ausberry fits what LSU has generally selected from the gateway, which is to say a Louisiana native returning back home. He prepped physically on LSU’s campus at U-High and was a top-200 overall talent before going with Auburn.
Ausberry played corner in high school but went to safety at Auburn. He redshirted in 2022, and only appeared in three games this season. Ausberry is also the son of former LSU player and current administrator Verge Ausberry.
We’re also following the status of former Ohio State corner Jyaire Brown. Brown, a New Orleans native, threw his name into the portal a month ago and posted a picture of himself with Sherman Wilson and Frank Wilson at the football ops building last night.
If and when Brown pops we’ll have something posted. Keep it locked.
