Breaking News: Atlanta Braves Top Super Star Agree A new Deal To Stay At Braves Make Him Highest Paid

Chris Sale signs to extend with Braves
Chris Sale and the Atlanta Braves have agreed to a contract extension.
Chris Sale, who was acquired by the Atlanta Braves from the Boston Red Sox just a few days ago, has signed a contract extension, it was reported today. The deal is for two years, $38 million, with a club option for 2026 at $18 million.

Sale was initially under contract for 2024 at $27.5 million, which included $10 million that was to be postponed, and a $20 million club option for 2025, which also would have included $5 million deferred. Jeff Passan claims that the present value of his 2024 contract was $20-21 million, therefore Sale got an additional $17-18 million guaranteed.

Sale, who turns 35 in March, is coming off of a 2023 season that was his first fairly healthy season since 2019. Sale put up a 4.30 ERA in 20 starts over 102 innings last year, after recording just 48 innings from 2020-22.

Sale gets an additional guaranteed amount for 2025 and presumably doesn’t have to worry with the deferrals anymore. Atlanta, however, sees their CBT figure for Sale go down, and has the prospect of bringing Sale back in 2026 with the option.
