Columbus, Ohio — Amaris Williams, a four-star defensive lineman, nearly attended Ohio State. However, he is now on record as expressing something that has alarmed Ohio State supporters for years.
The No. 79 overall talent in the 2024 class said in an interview with 247Sports that he has been concerned about a few things with Ohio State over the course of his recruitment in recent months. Despite the Buckeyes’ intense interest, Williams switched his pledge from Florida to Auburn on National Signing Day.

“I know I wasn’t going to Florida, but there was one big thing that really made a difference between Ohio State and Auburn, and I’m not really going to say it,” Williams told 247Sports. “People were saying (defensive line) coach (Larry) Johnson was retiring and he had a contract that ended in January.” “However, he had never signed a new one, so I didn’t think he was going to stay since he would have signed a new contract if he had stayed.”
