PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers got some good and some terrible injury news when they published their inactive list for Week 18 versus the Baltimore Ravens.
The Steelers announced quarterback Mitch Trubisky, offensive tackle Dylan Cook, cornerback Darius Rush, inside linebacker Blake Martinez and safeties Minkah Fitzpatrick (knee) and Trenton Thompson (neck) will not play in Week 18.
Fitzpatrick and Thompson will miss their third game owing to their injuries. After both exiting in Week 15 against the Indianapolis Colts, they were ruled out in Week 16 and Week 17. This week, they practiced enough to walk into the weekend with a dubious tag, but in the season finale, Pittsburgh will keep both sidelined. In their place, the Steelers will start Patrick Peterson and Eric Rowe at safety, with Miles Killebrew and Elijah Riley providing as backup pieces.
The Steelers did have some favorable injury news with the return of Elandon Roberts. Roberts missed last week with a pectoral ailment but returned to practice this week. He was listed as doubtful but assured reporters that he intended to play.
He’ll likely start next to Myles Jack at inside linebacker. Trubisky, while being inactive, will nonetheless dress for the game. He’ll be deemed the Steelers’ third quarterback, allowing him to play if Mason Rudolph and Kenny Pickett are unable to finish the game.
