This previous season, despite Max Scherzer’s injury and the absence of Jacob deGrom, the Texas Rangers prevailed in the World Series.

But pitching was just sufficient to get them there.

Montgomery was a true ace for the Rangers in the postseason and over the stretch run when they acquired him before the deadline.
For the Rangers the previous season, he pitched 67.2 innings with a 2.79 ERA.
He also recorded a respectable 2.90 ERA in 31 innings throughout the postseason.
They would give anything to have him back, but he is rumored to be demanding over $100 million.
Josh Hader, a reliever, is their other target.
Texas would be ecstatic to acquire Hader, who is perhaps the best left-hander in baseball.
Nonetheless, he is requesting a $102 million, five-year contract, which is comparable to Edwin Diaz’s.
For Texas, that might be too much.
In the second half, they might finally be able to get Scherzer and deGrom back to full health.
However, it could be difficult to get there with real opportunities, which is why they wish to bolster the pitching team.
