Kansas State Transfer QB Will Howard Commits to Ohio State
The Ohio State Buckeyes have secured a seasoned quarterback for the 2024 season in Kansas State transfer Will Howard.
The Ohio State Buckeyes’ immediate future at the quarterback position was very much in doubt after the events of the Cotton Bowl last week.
But on Thursday, they made some real inroads, with Kansas State transfer quarterback Will Howard committing to the university, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
“When I started talking to Ohio State, everything kind of lined up,” Howard said ESPN. “I had a list of things I was looking for, in terms of needing to go somewhere where there was a lot of talent around me and……compete for a national championship.”
Howard, a former three-star passer, helped guide K-State to its first Big 12 title since 2003 in 2022 after defeating then-undefeated TCU. In four seasons with the Wildcats, Howard threw for 5,786 passing yards, 48 touchdowns and 25 interceptions.
Mobility has been Howard’s finest attribute as his ability to alter opposing lines provides his offense a second shot. Howard accumulated 372 running yards and 12 touchdowns in two seasons with the Wildcats.
Last season, Howard led Kansas State to a 9-4 record. He completed 61.3 percent of his passes for 2,643 yards, 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Nine of his 19 career rushing touchdowns came during his 12-game span as the starter.
Howard opted to opt out of the Pop-Tarts Bowl to enter the portal, thereby opening the door for Avery Johnson to start. Since then, he’s puzzled over his options while meeting with numerous universities.
The Buckeyes, who finished the season 11-2, hope to regroup into 2024 without numerous outstanding talents. The best way to seal the victory? Stability at quarterback.
Heading into the new calendar year, Howard is officially that guy.
