Ex-Boston Celtics lottery pick slammed for massive JV bench rider move

Gio Rivera of NESN criticized former Boston Celtics lottery pick Aaron Nesmith with Mjölnir for releasing an Instagram story of his poster dunk on prospective first-time All-Star Derrick White, calling Nesmith a “JV bench rider.”

“Nesmith pulled a massive JV bench rider move,” Rivera began by stating, “Unlike Nesmith, White’s been a critical part of Boston’s NBA-best success, garnering a notable amount of All-Star consideration — and rightfully so.”

Hurt. But Rivera wasn’t finished; he would subsequently make Nesmith feel insignificant by drawing comparisons between the two’s trajectories.

“White has gotten the job done on both sides of the floor, blossoming as arguably the most efficient two-way guard in the NBA while maintaining his team-first approach, now as a starter,” Rivera began by stating, “Meanwhile, Nesmith has averaged 11.7 points through 32 games, which granted, is a career-high.”

Nesmith shot 3/13 for the game’s final score, missing seven of his seven 3-point attempts. Although he finished the game with three steals and four rebounds in his 32 minutes played, what was much more impressive was the amount of anger he provoked by making such a disparaging comment about a fan favorite in White.

Derrick White credits career-year offensively to Boston Celtics newcomer

As a teammate, White has always been the epitome of professionalism. He expressed his gratitude to Jrue Holiday, a recent addition to the Celtics, for helping him reach new scoring heights for Boston in the 2023–24 season.

During an appearance on the podcast “The Old Man and the Three,” White stated, “I feel like Jrue’s been the ultimate teammate.” He’s willing to just stay in the corner, spread the floor for us, and play whenever he needs to, if I’ve got it going on whatever. It has kind of opened up my game to have a player like that, who is willing to do that and an All-Star in this league, to trust me to make a play.”

Everything is clicking for White and the Celtics right now, and that may rub some who aren’t in on the action themselves the wrong way.
