In January, West Ham would like to recruit a “brilliant” £26 million forward rather than Serhou Guirassy

West Ham United would reportedly prefer to sign Ajax forward Steven Bergwijn over Serhou Guirassy in January.

The Athletic claims that this is the case and that Steven Bergwijn is given preference because of his prior Premier League experience.

Following a strong start to the season under David Moyes, West Ham presently occupies the top six spots.

The Scotsman’s playing style has drawn a lot of criticism. However, he still produces outcomes for the Hammers.

With West Ham looking to compete for a top-six league finish and extend their run in the Europa League, he will surely be eager to add players to his roster before the end of the month.

Former Tottenham player Bergwijn is one person whose name has been connected to an unexpected transfer to the London Stadium.

Fabrizio Romano did, in fact, reveal on Saturday that West Ham is interested in acquiring Bergwijn.

And even though West Ham has been linked to a bid for Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy, it appears they would rather sign the Ajax attacker.

According to The Athletic, West Ham has been mentioned as a potential suitor for Guirassy this month. However, Bergwijn is the favored choice because of his prior Premier League experience.

To make room for the Ajax star, the Hammers will still need to let go of one or two offensive players.

Said Benrahma, Pablo Fornals, and Maxwel Cornet are reportedly among the players who could be traded.

After spending two and a half years at Spurs, Bergwijn completed a £26 million move to Ajax last summer.

The Dutchman made 83 appearances for West Ham’s London rivals, scoring eight goals and dishing out ten assists.

Despite the Dutch giants’ troubles, he is having a respectable season with Ajax, contributing 11 goals in 20 appearances.

Bergwijn is considered a “brilliant” player and presents Moyes with an interesting option. Though he has shown occasional flashes of brilliance while wearing a Spurs shirt, the 26-year-old hasn’t yet lived up to his potential.

He can play throughout the frontline, though, and would give Moyes another respectable option.
