Juan Soto and Trent Grisham were acquired by the Padres in a seven-player blockbuster trade that sent pitchers Michael King, Randy Vasquez, Jhony Brito, and Drew Thorpe, as well as catcher Kyle Higashioka. With 35 home runs this season, Soto will invigorate the offense, and Grisham, a two-time Gold Glove Award winner, will shore up the defense.

Grisham might have adjusted to New York a little differently, according to Gwynn. The 27-year-old, who Gwynn indicated might be able to reestablish his offensive footing with the Yankees, is anticipated to be the fourth outfielder.

“It’s not realistic to say he’ll perform as well. I believe that occasionally, criticism bothers him. It’s every man for himself in New York when it comes to [criticism]. It will be interesting to observe his level of success. I won’t claim that he can’t succeed, but I will definitely be keeping an eye on him. It’s not quite the same as Juan’s, in my opinion.

In 153 games in 2023, Grisham hit.198,.315, and.352 with 13 home runs and 50 RBI. He has batted below.200 for the past two seasons in a row, and his five-season average is.216.
