Good News: New Orleans Saints confirm The Addition of Super Bowl-winning Man

Adding Jon Gruden to the Saints’ staff would bring Derek Carr and Gruden back together, according to reports. Gruden was a consultant for the Saints this past season.

Even though the New Orleans Saints are slated to make some staff changes in 2024, head coach Dennis Allen is likely to remain with the team. A recent report claims that this summer, recent Orleans may hire a famous head coach who has won Super Bowls.

If Jon Gruden is unable to get a head coaching position this summer, the Saints are reportedly contemplating adding him, via Nola.com. When the Saints traveled to Tampa Bay in Week 17 to play the Buccaneers, Gruden allegedly met with club officials. According to reports, he went so far as to lunch with Saints employees, including general manager Mickey Loomis, and even attended a team meeting.

While Gruden could be a good addition to the offensive staff, according to Jeff Duncan, he wouldn’t be able to succeed Pete Carmichael as coordinator. On Monday, Allen assured reporters that the Saints and he will “look at everything” when considering any offensive staff moves.

Because of his familiarity with Derek Carr, a former quarterback with the Las Vegas Raiders who was transferring to New Orleans, Gruden worked as a consultant for the Saints last season. Carr went 9-8 as the starter this season, throwing for 3,878 yards, 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He ended up the 2023 campaign with an NFL-high 14 passing touchdowns during the past five games.

Before taking on an advising role with the Saints, Gruden coached the Raiders for just over three years. Upon discovering that he had used racist, sexist, and homophobic language in emails that were released, he resigned in October 2021. During a visit at Arkansas’ Little Rock Touchdown Club in August, Gruden claimed he is “ashamed” of the language he used in the emails, but that he would like to return to the sidelines.

“I’m not gonna say anything but honest things here,” Gruden remarked when asked to discuss his departure. “I’m ashamed about what has come up in these emails, and I’ll make no excuses for it. It’s shameful. But I am a nice guy, I think that. I go to church. I’ve been married for 31 years. I got three great boys. I still adore football. I made some mistakes, but I don’t suppose anybody else in here hasn’t. And I simply pray for forgiveness, and hopefully I get another shot.”

Gruden won Super Bowl XXXVII with the Buccaneers back in 2003, and is 117-112 as a head coach.
