Newcastle must have deadline to trigger striker’s release clause – Set to expire in a few days, would be a gamble

Even though there hasn’t been as much media coverage of Newcastle United’s interest in Serhou Guirassy in the last week or two, the Magpies are still quite interested.

Newcastle United reach Premier League milestone

After all, they were rumored to have approached the prolific striker—who is presently training with Guinea’s national team in preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations—just before the start of the new year.

He hobbled out during the friendly match against Nigeria, raising some questions about possible transfer rumors. Sport Bild has a piece regarding his circumstances that provides us with some fresh information.

The Newcastle United target’s fitness for the competition’s first group match against Cameroon on January 15th is in doubt, as neither the club nor the nation can comment on the severity of his thigh issue.

According to reports, this occurs at a “inopportune time” during the January transfer season, since he is free to depart provided his €20 million (or €17.5 million, depending on who activates it) release clause is fulfilled.
Newcastle isn’t mentioned by name, but it is explained that this injury might “deter potential interested parties,” who have a deadline to meet in order to acquire him at a low cost.

This is due to Bild’s revelation that his winter exit clause “should only be valid until mid-January,” which alludes to Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations opener.

He now states that he “has not yet received an offer,” and it is seen to be “unlikely” that by then, any “concrete negotiations” with clubs will have taken place.

We’ll have to wait and see, but most people believe that he will remain at Stuttgart for the time being, barring a last-minute push by Newcastle or other interested parties to acquire an injured player.
