A quarterback is now a member of the Miami Dolphins. The Hurricanes decided to go through with signing third-team FCS All-American quarterback Reese Poffenbarger after spending the weekend in South Florida with the Orange and Blue.

On Monday afternoon, he made a commitment to the Hurricanes.

Poffenbarger has two years of experience playing college football and is currently the FCS leader in passing yards (3,603) and passing touchdowns (36). The Great Danes advanced to the FCS semifinals last season thanks in large part to the 6-foot, 205-pounder, who started in 11 games and helped them defeat Richmond and No. 4 Idaho on the road before losing to No. 1 South Dakota State.

In 2023, Poffenbarger had an 81.2 passing grade, as reported by Pro Football Focus. In 2023, he was not afraid to take long shots, going for 103 and making 35 of them. As a runner, he averaged 2.99 yards per carry after contact and forced 18 missed tackles.

Over the course of his career, Poffenbarger has totaled 5969 passing yards with 56 touchdowns to 16 interceptions with a 59% completion percentage.

Poffenbarger does have appearances against Power Five programs: Baylor (2022), Hawaii (2023), and Marshall (2023), Poffenbarger went a combined 45-of-95 throwing for 427 yards with three touchdowns and zero interceptions while carrying the ball 37 times for 95 yards and two touchdowns.

Poffenbarger’s best PFF passing grade came against Baylor in 2022 as he went 13-of-26 passing for 150 yards with one score and he received a 68.7 passing mark.

A 2020 recruit out of Middletown (Md.), Poffenbarger signed with Old Dominion before transferring to Albany ahead of the 2022 season.

Miami now has four quarterbacks on scholarship between Poffenbarger, redshirt sophomore Jacurri Brown, sophomore Emory Williams, and true freshman Judd Anderson. Poffenbarger, Brown, and Williams are likely to fight for the starting job during the following eight months.

He will also join an offensive coordinated by Shannon Dawson that showed huge statistical improvements in 2024, increasing from 23.6 points per game in 2023 to 31.5 points per game in the first year under Dawson.

The Hurricanes also bring back the ACC’s top two returning wide receivers in Xavier Restrepo (1092 yards) and Jacolby George (862 yards) from this past season.

The 247Sports Transfer Rankings Council has an 86 rating and three-star grade on Poffenbarger.
