Former Temple cornerback Jalen McMurray commits to Tennessee
More secondary help.
Tennessee has grabbed some more help out of the transfer window, once again acquiring some much-needed aid in the secondary. Jalen McMurray, a seasoned cornerback who played his previous three seasons with Temple, made his commitment to Tennessee on Tuesday afternoon.
McMurray entered the gateway back on December 27th. The 6-0 cornerback competed in 27 games for Temple, piling up 90 tackles, one pick and was credited with 12 pass breakups. He will have two seasons of eligibility remaining after redshirting back in 2021.
McMurray also took trips at Bowling Green and Illinois before ultimately picking Tennessee. He joins Jermod McCoy in Tennessee’s gateway class at cornerback, giving the Volunteers a much needed veteran at the position. Tennessee is likely to swap its entire secondary this offseason, as all five starters have moved on after the season.
In total, seven defensive backs entered the transfer portal for Tennessee, causing a tremendous amount of upheaval in the secondary. All of those slots will be up for grabs in the spring, where Rickey Gibson is expected to lead the way at corner. Now you can chuck another name in that mix, as Willie Martinez is ready to attempt to piece this puzzle together.
