Done Deal: Just In LSU Tigers confirm the signing of another top super star

CJ Daniels Transferring to LSU Tigers sure up the wide receiver room

One of the biggest difficulties coming into 2024 for LSU will be how can you replace All-American wide receivers Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr.?

Future NFL star receivers grow on trees in Louisiana and while the aim is people like Kyren Lacy emerges as a real No. 1, or a young player like Shelton Sampson takes the next step and becomes a contributor, these days it doesn’t hurt to take some proven experience out of the transfer portal.

LSU did that a few weeks ago with Zavion Thomas. Now they’re trying it again with former Liberty wide receiver CJ Daniels.

Daniels is visiting Baton Rouge this weekend and he’s apparently seen enough already as he’s reportedly committed to LSU. Daniels caught 55 catches for 1,067 yards and 10 touchdowns last season as he helped Liberty secure a ticket to the Fiesta Bowl. He has one last year of eligibility remaining.

With the state of LSU’s defensive line and backfield, utilizing a roster space on a transfer wide receiver would raise some concerns. But I’d argue having an experienced receiver will go a long ways toward helping first-year starting quarterback Garrett Nussmeier develop.

In four years at Liberty, Daniels has 106 catches for 1,954 yards, and 21 touchdowns. By comparison, Kyren Lacy has 104 catches, 1,494 yards, and 17 touchdowns in 52 games, whereas Daniels has played in 42.
