Vols among favorites for highly ranked Louisiana offensive lineman.
A four-star Class of 2025 offensive lineman from Louisiana announced a list of preferences Friday afternoon that includes Tennessee.
Tennessee is among the leading contenders for a highly ranked offensive-line recruit from Louisiana. Four-star Class of 2025 offensive lineman Devin Harper of Calvary Baptist Academy in Shreveport, La., released his top 10 college selections Friday afternoon in posts on his social-media accounts, revealing that the Vols are one of nine SEC teams in the running for him.
Georgia, Texas, Oklahoma, LSU, Alabama, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Texas Tech joined Tennessee in the group of front-runners for the 6-foot-5, 300-pound Harper. He has received scholarship offers from roughly 30 institutions, including all 10 of his current favorites. He posted an image containing the logos of all 10 colleges.
He’s regarded by 247Sports as the No. 109 overall recruit and No. 6 interior offensive lineman in the 2025 class and the No. 2 junior from the state of Louisiana. He’s also a four-star prospect in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, where he’s ranked the No. 125 overall player and No. 6 interior offensive lineman in the 2025 class and the No. 3 junior from Louisiana.
Harper picked up an offer from Tennessee on Aug. 1. He tagged Vols offensive analysts Micah James and McKenzie Milton in a post on his X account in which he declared his offer from Tennessee.
Gabe Brooks, a 247Sports scouting analyst, stated in November after examining Harper that he was “pretty raw” but had “plenty of upside” as a prospect.
“Harper plays physical and sets the tone at the (line of scrimmage) for Shreveport (La.) Captain Shreve,” Brooks wrote at the time. “He’s a convicted down blocker and block-finisher. Hand placement and body control are works in progress, but Harper demonstrates required lateral mobility and above-average foot quickness. Hands aren’t always on target, but when they pop, they pop.
“Overall movement ability is above average, and the motor does not appear to be in issue. Harper could represent a possible combo O-lineman in the perspective of some institutions, and in relation to his long-term projection. I like him a lot – pretty raw, but seems to have plenty of upside.”
After attending a camp at LSU in June, Harper told 247Sports’ Bryce Koon that there was at least one important part of his game that he felt he still needed to improve.
“I know my strengths are my ability to be a good run blocker and just being nasty up front,” Harper told Koon at the time. “Coaches have let me know they love my footwork and being able to drive guys back in the run game. The biggest thing I want to and will continue to focus on is my pass protection. I need to improve that more to become a more complete lineman.”
Tennessee has already secured five commitments for the 2025 class, headlined by four-star tight end Jack VanDorselaer, a Top247 talent from Southlake, Texas. The Vols’ 2025 class presently doesn’t contain any predicted offensive linemen.
