That certainly caught us off guard! McLaren debuts its 2024 livery early; the real vehicle will follow a month later.
We promise that the Formula One launch season arrives sooner each year. McLaren has kicked off this year’s yearly 3D-render bender with a livery that incorporates many features from some of the (many) one-offs from the previous season.
McLaren’s latest rival, the MCL38, receives a lot of papaya and anthracite, probably to allay our complaints about the grid being too dark. For the sake of, well, losing weight.
The 2024 design features elements from the ‘Stealth Mode’ paint job from the previous year, which was only worn during the Singapore Grand Prix. Additionally, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri’s driver numbers have been updated to include chrome, akin to the British GP special from July of last year.
It should be noted that although this is McLaren’s new livery, the car itself will not be shown until a formal launch on February 14, one week prior to its arrival at Bahrain for pre-season testing.
CEO of the team Zak Brown stated, “We’re thrilled to unveil our 2024 Formula 1 livery ahead of the new season.” “I’m excited to go racing and watch the design come to life on the track next month; it looks amazing.”
“We didn’t get off to the best start in 2023, but Andrea [Stella] and the team pulled through admirably after the organizational restructure went into effect, and we’re keeping up the good work as we head into the 2024 campaign.”
Yes, exactly. Although McLaren had a terrible car at the beginning of 2023, aerodynamic improvements caused it to soar up the grid: Oscar Piastri won his first sprint race, and Lando Norris had yet another fantastic campaign, finishing second to Max Verstappen ahead of everyone else.
“I’m excited for the upcoming season, which will be my sixth in Formula 1. My goal is to build on the momentum our team achieved towards the end of the previous season and make a strong start in Bahrain,” stated Norris. With parts from last year’s improvements included, the new livery looks fantastic, and I have no doubt that the fans will adore it just as much as I do.
“The factory crew has put in a tremendous amount of work during the off-season, and I am eager to take the wheel of the 2024 car and push our rivals closer to the front of the grid.”
“The 2024 livery looks really cool, and I’m looking forward to racing in the iconic McLaren colors for a second season,” Piastri continued. In my rookie season, I won a sprint race and secured two podiums, so I had some really memorable moments with the organization.
“I’m going to put in a lot of effort with the team to carry those results into the new season and outperform our rivals to provide the fans with even more unforgettable moments.”
Will McLaren eventually resume its winning ways in this year?
