D’antre Robinson, a 4-Star defensive line commit and early signee, is allegedly likely to ask for his release from his letter of intent with Texas football following the loss of defensive line coach Bo Davis.
The freshmen early enrollees from the Texas football recruiting class of 2024 moved in on January 14. Over the weekend, move-in day was attended by all but one of the early signees who were anticipated to enroll at Texas for the spring semester.
On January 14, the Longhorns’ move-in day, four-star Orlando (FL) Jones defensive lineman D’antre Robinson was the sole early signee who failed to show up.
Football in Texas is anticipated to lose star defensive end D’antre Robinson.
Robinson’s planned request for a release from his National Letter of Intent appears to be the reason he did not show up at Texas (per TFB Texas). Following defensive line coach Bo Davis’s departure to assume a similar position on the LSU Tigers staff early in the offseason, Robinson is seeking his release from the University of Texas.
On January 10, Davis was brought on board by LSU to take over the same position on head coach Brian Kelly’s staff that he had held for the previous three seasons at Texas under head coach Steve Sarkisian.
The two other DLs from Texas in the 2024 class are still committed.
Melvin Hills of Lafayette Christian Academy (LA) and Alex January of Duncanville, both four-star defensive line prospects in the 2024 class, are supposedly still committed to the Longhorns.
January arrived last weekend for move-in day at Texas.
Hills, on the other hand, is still waiting on Sarkisian and the Longhorns to appoint him as defensive line coach to take Davis’ spot. Hills enrolled in the summer.
Texas is now looking for a coach to replace Davis.
Depending on who the Longhorns choose to take Davis’ post as the new defensive line coach, there may yet be an opportunity to get Robinson to return to Austin.
Regarding the announcement of the next defensive line coach hire by Sarkisian and the Longhorns, no specific date has been provided.
