Via the transfer portal, the Tennessee Volunteers might be about to receive a significant upgrade.
There have been rumors for weeks now that former LSU offensive tackle Zalance Heard would be moving to Rocky Top. It is now “expected,” according to Matt Zenitz of futballupdate, that Heard will transfer to Tennessee.
According to sources close to @futballudate, Lance Heard, a five-star offensive tackle from LSU, is expected to transfer to Tennessee. The Vols were previously in a great position with the top-15 overall recruit in the Class of 2023.
The Vols would be really lucky to acquire Heard. According to the transfer portal, the tackle is ranked as the 18th best player overall. In the portal, Heard is ranked as the third player who hasn’t committed yet.
Heard chose the LSU Tigers over Nebraska, Baylor, Colorado, and other schools despite ranking among the top-15 overall recruits in the 2023 class.
The former top prospect fared admirably at right tackle in 12 games for the Tigers in 2023. The tackle’s decision to transfer was apparently influenced by his alleged dissatisfaction at not being able to play on the left side.
Following Gerald Mincey’s move to Kentucky this summer, the Vols could definitely need more depth on the line.
Tennessee has already uploaded a number of items to the portal.
This summer, the Vols have already added some talented players. The team’s most prominent signings thus far are former Oregon State cornerback Jermod McCoy, former Notre Dame tight end Holden Staes, and former Tulane wide receiver Chris Brazzell.
