Austin Watkins Jr. is a valuable depth addition for the Eagles.
The Philadelphia Eagles did not have the 2023–24 NFL season that they had hoped for. The Eagles were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. Despite this setback, Philly has moved to acquire Austin Watkins Jr., a former wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns, to further support AJ Brown and Devonta Smith.
After a poor season finale, the Eagles bolster their depth at wide receiver by adding Austin Watkins Jr. to the roster on Thursday, according to Browns Wire. The 25-year-old was a member of Cleveland’s practice squad for the whole season. He will now get the chance to get experience with two of the NFL’s top receivers.
AJ Brown’s outstanding regular season output enabled him to spearhead Philly’s offensive assault. With 106 receptions, Brown gained 1,456 yards and seven touchdowns. His primary objective was quarterback Jalen Hurts. Although Brown had wanted to have a bigger effect during the playoffs, he will return with a bang.
Devonta Smith, meanwhile, was a great complement to Brown’s performance. With 81 receptions for 1,066 yards and seven touchdowns, the 25-year-old scored. He is essential to Philly’s receiving core and should help Brown have yet another outstanding performance in the autumn of 2024.
