Pro Bowl tight end Mark Andrews will not be available for the Baltimore Ravens’ Saturday game against the Houston Texans.
Andrews returned to practice earlier this week after missing time due to a fibula fracture and damaged ankle ligaments sustained against the Lions in Week 11.
But even in doing so, Baltimore seems to be taking its time with its rising star.
When asked about a possible comeback to the playing field earlier this week, Andrews responded, “At the end of the day, that’s how I feel.” Knowing how talented our players, tight ends, and squad as a whole are, I will play if I believe I can contribute to the team. I’m going to let these guys go and try to make it there the following weekend if I feel like I’m near but not quite there.
He obviously didn’t feel well enough to think he could support the Ravens in their game versus the Texans.
In the 10 games he has played this season, Andrews has caught 45 passes for 544 yards and six touchdowns. At the time of the injury, he was the team leader in receptions.
In his place was rookie first-round pick Zay Flowers. In his NFL debut, Flowers caught 77 catches for 858 yards. Late in the season, Odell Beckham Jr., a seasoned superstar, has taken a closer look at the player that many fans remember.
However, Andrews’ absence is definitely significant. He is one of the most effective pass-catchers in the NFL, particularly when it comes to the red zone, and he provides QB Lamar Jackson with a sense of security.
In the event that the Ravens defeat the Texans, they will surely be hoping that the Oklahoman can make a comeback to face the Buffalo Bills or the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game.
If not, Baltimore’s chances of making it to the Super Bowl will be slim.
