Davante Adams endorses potential raiders signing of 4-time Pro Bowl QB

The Las Vegas Raiders have appointed Antonio Pierce as their head coach, and one of his initial decisions will be addressing the quarterback situation. With Jimmy Garoppolo likely to be cut and Aidan O’Connell not deemed a reliable starter, the team faces a decision.

Picking at No. 13 in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Raiders may miss out on top rookies but have options with available veterans. Wide receiver Davante Adams expressed interest in Kirk Cousins, citing his availability and quarterback skills. Cousins’ contract with the Minnesota Vikings expires this offseason, presenting an opportunity for the Raiders.

While Antonio Pierce’s hiring may align with Adams’ preferences, the fit with Cousins depends on the offensive coordinator. A Kyle Shanahan disciple like Klint Kubiak could make Cousins a good fit, given his proficiency in a pocket-centric, less mobile style of play. Kliff Kingsbury, linked to the Raiders job, might suit a more mobile quarterback.

However, Cousins, recovering from an Achilles injury in 2023, raises concerns about his health at 36 when the next season starts. Considering the Raiders’ recent experience with Garoppolo’s injury, a cautious approach is needed. Building around a young quarterback seems wiser for a team with youth and a fledgling head coach. Cousins may serve as a short-term option, but he might prefer a team closer to Super Bowl contention.
