There were concerns regarding Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, playing his first-ever away playoff game. The primary reason the Buffalo Bills were picked as the favorites was their home field advantage.
Even though the lead changed several times during the thrilling game, the Chiefs prevailed. At Highmark Stadium, Mahomes completed 73.9% of his throws for 215 yards and two touchdowns in front of an unfriendly crowd.
Now that the Bills have been eliminated from the playoffs three times in the last five years, Mahomes is unquestionably the bad guy in Buffalo. Mahomes was questioned about their next opponent as soon as they defeated the Bills, 27–24. The Chiefs will play the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium following their victory over Buffalo.
Mahomes stated, “There’s no weakness there,” in reference to facing Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson and company. Baltimore advanced to the AFC Divisional Championship game after destroying the Houston Texans 34–10. “Our guys are going to prepare to head out there and assess our options.”
It will require our utmost effort, Mahomes continued. “That stadium will be electric, and we’re ready for the challenge.” Having defeated the Bills at home has boosted Mahomes’ confidence. “We wanted to demonstrate that we can perform anywhere and to prove a point.” And they have at this moment.
After the game, Mahomes had to cover his head to protect himself from snowballs. But he’ll be all right. Mahomes remarked, “It really is a great environment.” Josh Allen, the quarterback for the Bills, is disappointed by this defeat. And it will for some time.
After the game, Allen told reporters, “It sucks.” It hurts to lose. Losing to anyone at home, losing to them. It’s awful.
NFL History Was Made by Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes When the Chiefs defeat the Bills
Tight end Travis Kelce had not scored a touchdown in seven games prior to the AFC Divisional Game. But the Mahomes-Kelce connection came to life against the Bills. Kelce scored on a 22-yard reception in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, with a three-point advantage, Mahomes again hit Kelce in the end zone with a quick 3-yard touchdown pass. Mahomes and Kelce now have the most postseason touchdowns (16) of any quarterback-receiver combination after that touchdown. They overcame tight end Rob Gronkowski and great quarterback Tom Brady to win the championship.Kelce was obviously ecstatic following both goals. According to NFL.com, missing a score in seven games was the second-longest skid in his career.
But the 34-year-old felt supremely secure entering Highmark Stadium. Bills Mafia took exception when Kelce, during his pregame address in the tunnel, made fun of Buffalo by referencing the iconic former head coach Marv Levy. Kelce remained unmoved. The broadcast showed Kelce saying goodbye to the dejected supporters in Orchard Park following the game.
Patrick Mahomes anticipates a close game between the Chiefs and Ravens.
Mahomes has been the starting quarterback for six years, and next week he will participate in his sixth AFC Championship game. After the game, the two-time Super Bowl MVP maintained his modesty while praising his opponent in an interview with reporters.
“I always know that it will come down to the wire when I play Josh. simply due to the fact that he is a competitor and player. Mahomes stated that he anticipates playing Jackson in another fierce game the following week.
“The same when I confront Joe (Burrow) and Lamar… They have a lot of fire, and I know they won’t give up until the very end. You value those kinds of things. These are the games I used to play as a child. Outstanding quarterbacks competing against each other on outstanding football teams and inside outstanding organizations. That’s what comes to mind. Therefore, maybe we’re creating those memories for other young children.
